5 out of 5 stars THIS IS THE BOOK THAT SHOULD HAVE COME WITH THE PURCHASE OF YOUR NEW HAND GUN!   September 18, 2006

If you are a hand gun owner living in the Great State of California, you owe it to yourself (and your family) to own a copy of this book.

This book, written by John Machtinger, is an attorney and one of California's foremost authorities on firearms laws.

This 192 page book covers a wide range of legal topics that California gun owners need to know, including self-defense, concealed carry, assault weapons, federal law, and much more
in an easy-to-understand format. The book is also fully citated, and is of great value to legal practitioners.

How to Own a Gun & Stay Out of Jail has sold over 85,000 copies and is the #1 firearms law book used by major California law enforcement agencies for CCW training.

I keep this book in my range bag and it goes with me anytime I travel with my gun.

If you are a private citizen (whether you own a gun or not), a security guard, or training to be a police office, this book is for you.

5 out of 5 stars A must read for a gun owner in California   February 27, 2009

This book allows the reader to navigate through myth and realities of owning a gun in California. From basic information such as legal requirements to owning a weapon to the more advance staff such as when and why the use of lethal force would be acceptable, this book effectively separates facts from fiction. If you want to own a gun and enjoy sound sleep, buy and read this book. You would be surprised how many legal pitfalls the gun owner faces if ever forced to use a weapon in self defense.

The 2009 Edition is available for $14.95 and that includes shipping directly from Gun Law Press. Look them up on the internet. John is a great guy. Don't give these vendors a chance to cheat you with this $140+ for last years edition.

If you are thinking of buying a gun its important to read this book. It goes over the convoluted patchwork that is California gun law. It also has references to continue your self education. I like how it uses short stories to illustrate different predicaments.
